George L. Lawson, Jr. September 11, 1929-April 16, 2002 COLUMBUS, GA— George L. Lawson, Jr., 72, of Columbus died Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday at the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum in Parkhill Cemetery with Masonic Rites, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Macon Road Chapel. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Mr. Lawson was born September 11, 1929 in Ft. Benning, Ga. the son of George L. an Myrtle Reese Lawson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and retired from Civil Service at Ft. Benning. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, the Wilson Williams Masonic Lodge and the Phenix City Shrine Club. He was a Baker High School graduate and was named All Bi- City in football as a punter, and played in the Georgia All-Star Football Game. Survivors include his wife, Sally Ann Lawson of Columbus. A son and daughter in law, George Larry and Suanne Lawson of Ellerslie, Ga. A sister, JoAnna Lawson of Columbus. Granddaughters and their husbands, Amy and David Bucher of Columbus and Traci and Kris King of Columbus. Great Grandchildren, Kyle and Kassi. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriner's Cripple Children's Hospital.
