Roy Eugene "Gene" Entrekin, Class of '59

About-Baker: I was in the Baker band from 8th through 12 grades and a member of several clubs such as the National Honor Society, Key Club, F.T.A. and the Georgia All-State band in my junior and senior years. My most memorable moment was making 1st chair in the trumpet section.

After-Baker: I served in the Navy for five years as a Communications Technician and subsequently went to work for the Department of Defense in Maryland in 1964. While working, I attended night school at the University of Maryland and graduated in 1977. I married Delores almost 50 years ago and we have two daughters, one who lives in North Carolina and the other in Virginia. On August 30, 2004, our younger daughter made us proud grandparents by presenting us with our first grandchild. I retired from the government in 1997 and worked as a consultant for an additional four years, resigning in early 2002. I was called back to work by the government in January 2003 and continued working until January 20, 2005, when my two years--the maximum allowable by law--ended. We've been living in Martinez, Georgia (a bedroom community of Augusta) since the latter part of 1995 and plan to remain here until we find a better retirement location. The thing we enjoy most is travel (23 trips with Grand Circle Travel and Overseas Adventure Travel since 2000 and about 12 others with different companies as well as on our own). We've vacationed in most countries of western Europe and the Mediterranean, and several countries in the Middle East. We've also visited such Pacific locations as Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Tahiti and have spent several weeks touring China, Costa Rica and the Canadian Rockies. My ambition is to see all of the U.S. national parks and as many other countries around the world as possible.
