Joan Theresa Mattus (Mattus Sizemore), Class of '63

I have many fond memories of Baker High School. My best were of the 4 wonderful years in the band and 3 years as Majorette. After high school I attended CC for 2 years, then went to work for what is now Bell South, first in Columbus, then Atlanta, Covington, back to Phenix City and finally in Huntsville Al. As you can I joined the telephone company to see the world. In 1965 I bumped into Jimmy Sizemore also class of 1963. We were married August of 1965 and remain happily so to this day. We were married for 13 years before we had our wonderful son Jamie, who is now 26 and just got married in April. Those of you who knew Jimmy, know of his interest in guns.He owned his own business for several years in Conyers Ga.Was vice-president of and import company that imported firearms from all over the world. He was able to travel extensively to Spain, Germany, Italy, Brazil Etc. In 1976 he joined the markmenship unit at Ft. Benning and was voted onto the 1980 Olympic Team to support to shooting team. Unfortunately we boycotted that year. The team did however travel to China. He was at the world shoots in Seoul Korea, the world championships in Antibes France and the Pan Am Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He retired in 1981 with a disability and moved with me to Huntsville, when Bell South transferred me. I retired in 1996 after 31 years.I then went back to work for the Huntsville City School System and have been here 7 years. I really love working with the children, and feel it has given me another purpose in life.
