I obtained my BS in Education from Auburn and entered the USAF. I served 6 years in the Air Force and there I began my career in law enforcement. I served in southeast asia in 1970-1971 and during my last tour of duty with the USAF, I served as an officer in charge of security details for the President of the United States and various heads of state that entered the Washington DC area. After my tour with the US Air Force, I worked with the Montgomery County Police Department (MD); the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation; I was Chief of Police in Fuquay-Varina, NC; and the Chief of Police in Wilson, NC, from 1982 to 1996. In June of 1996 I worked with the US Justice Department in Haiti training the new Haitian Police Force. I retired from the Wilson Police Department and I am now the Assistant Director for Public Safety for East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. I obtained my MA from George Washington University and I am an adjunct professor at North Carolina Wesleyan College. I also teach Scuba Diving and supervise dive tours off the coast of North Carolina. I am married, have two children. My daughter, Tara, is a junior at Applachian State University majoring in music and my son is a junior in high school. My wife is completing her education at East Carolina University and next year will begin a new career in elementary education.
