Hugh "Monk" Ellis, Class of '70



I played football and wrestled at Baker.

I attened Navarro college from 1970-1971. I then went to Texas A&M during the Spring of 72.

Then I entered the U.S. Army and served threes years as a military policeman. In 1975 I returned to Texas A&M where I majored in Education. I taught one year in Bryan and then moved to Corsicana Texas in 1979.

I taught for one year at Collins Middle School in Corsicana before taking a job at Oil City Iron Works (foundry). I worked there for three years and then returned to Collins Middle School where I coached and taught History. In 1989 I got a Masters degree from UT Tyler in Mid-Management.

I also took a principals job at Blooming Grove High School, which is a school with about 300 students in grades 9-12.

I married in 1974 to a girl I met at Navarro College. We have three daughters, Mary Beth-20, Joanna-18, and Laura-16. Mary beth is a junior at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Joanna is a graduating senior and will attend Lon Morris College in the fall of 97 on a volleyball & softball scholarship. Laura will be a senior next year.

I am an avid fisherman and we follow our daughters around the state watching them play volleyball and softball.
