Owen H. Searcy, Class of '79

About-Baker: I attended Baker my freshman and sophomore years. I played football and attempted to play basketball, but could never make the cut (a 5’ 8" white man, can’t jump). My dad retired from the army in the Summer of my sophomore year and we moved to Auburn, AL. The only thing I remember about school was being in Mrs. Gosha's German class and never being able to figure out why. The worst memory was sneaking off campus, going to Taco Bell, I think it was, and then getting caught by that assistant principal, who's name I can't recall but can still see his face, sneaking out of the storm sewer down near the football practice field. I also remember the good times I had with my friend Douglas Byrd '79.

After-Baker: After graduating from Auburn High School in 1979, I walked on at Auburn University, played football for one year, and then decided to work for 14 years before I returned to Auburn and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. I left Auburn and went to work in Jacksonville, FL for CSX Railroad for a number of years, and have recently (Mar 2001) returned to Auburn where I am a senior design engineer for a consulting firm. I have been married for 10 years and have 3 sons and 1 daughter. I enjoy doing volunteer work for Operation Lifesaver, an organization dedicated to educating the public on safety at railroad crossings. I also enjoy spending time with my wife and children, because as we all know by now, time does have a way of getting away from us.
