I voted early today, as I'm going to be out of town next week. I was really
surprised that, for the 1st time in my life, I ended up voting for more
Democrats than Republicans. I guess I shouldn't be that surprised after the dismal
slate that Illinois Republicans presented in the last election.

In a couple of cases, I might have voted Republican in a close call, but I
decided I could not support "The Party" this year. The most significant factor
was the daily, sleazy, cowardly, caller blocked, anonymous-voice phone calls,
 attacking Democrats on non-issues like:

1) When I learned the "Pledge of Allegiance" Dwight Eisenhower had not yet
inserted "Under God" .... and you know what, we survived. Now I like saying
under God, but not to the point of daily phone calls attacking Melissa Bean for
voting against an amendment. There are real issues that need addressing.

2) How can I get excited about Tammy Duckworth voting against putting the
National Guard on our borders when our gutless wonders in Washington can't put
together an immigration reform law OF ANY KIND. In this case, I also feel she
is right. We are fighting a bullets-in-the-air war on 2 fronts. Our troops
don't need to be covering political asses in a fruitless attempt to stick a
finger in the immigration dike.

3) How can my party ask me to vote for a 3rd rate candidate so I can keep
Nancy Pelosi from rising to power? Give me great candidate, or fight her in
California.

and on and on and on and on.......

I'll never again make a political contribution, because I know it will be
spent in the above manner. Sorta like paying someone to beat you with a stick.
The Democrats certainly were not completely clean in this, but I was able to
call and get off their call list. I never had a chance with the Republicans
using blocked caller ID.

I am grateful for one event this last week. Kerry's "joke" reaffirmed to me
that, regardless of how I feel about Bush, I certainly voted correctly in the
last election. That one statement verified Kerry's elitist attitude and that
all the Veterans (like me who hate him) do so with good cause. I hope his
political career is killed by it.
